Flightdeck Simulator Construction Diary
Page 10: Current
I'm keeping
a running diary of my progress here- the ups, the downs, the trials
and tribulations of building the sim. The table is in reverse
date order, so the most recent entry is at the top.

It's been a long time between updates - we know! We've been working away at it but also working at our 'real life' jobs. The kids have to eat after all. Many of the things we've improved you can't photograph (sorry!) but here's a broad list:
- All PCs upgraded to Windows XP2 with .NET v3.5 (improved performance).
- Extensive tweaking of FS computer to improve performance.
- Upgraded RAM on FS computer to 2GB.
- Extensive tweaking of flight model and control handling.
- Various USB issues corrected.
- Cable and wire runs re-routed, improved and labelled.
- All main instrument panel indicators, lights and switches completed.
- Bass shakers installed to provide general rumble and event-based rattles and shakes.
- Steering tiller installed.
- Chart, map and daylight lights installed.
- Most gauges connected and gauge logic programmed in overhead panel.
Below are some recent photographs ... |

These shots show our new daylight lighting effect. This provides a sunlight effect on the glareshield, window sills and spills natural looking light around the cockpit, which makes the experience feel much more natural. We will be increasing the intensity of the MIP floodlighting soon, and installing the MCP post-lighting too.

Chart and map lights are installed for both crew, and are switched from the dimmer panels. These are converted head-lamp torches which have 12 LEDs in them. They are wired up to the 12v power rail.

Steering tiller installed. This a real tiller from a 737-200 and is mounted through to a pot. It is then picked up by FS as an axes and calibrated using FSUIPC which has a fantastic tiller control function. Taxiing is now much easier!
