One of the most difficult decisions to make was deciding on the underlying software systems to provide the various systems, logics and displays. The PMDG-737 does this beautifully with almost all systems simulated. So with software for under $100 you can do some nifty things to make this software drive your sims displays and run the systems and built-in logics. But there a few limitations with things like fully independent displays for the two pilots and full overhead panel/logics simulation. Ian Sissons (UK) has championed the PMDG approach and his site is a fantastic resource with lots of good ideas and tutorials.

PMDG + PM displaysThe high-end system on offer at present is Project Magenta which provides full software simulation of most of the 737's systems. But that adds a significant cost in both software and some extra PCs. So it becomes a decision of weighing-up cost against the type of simulator you want to end up with. In the end there were some things that I needed that the PMDG approach couldn't provide and so I had to go the Project Magenta way.

Just finishing this part of the design now - will upload more detail soon.
