Testing the TripleHead2Go unit with 3 projectors These are my initial tests done on a small scale in my lounge room. Eventually I plan to use curved mirrors and screen to give further wrap-around perspective in a much bigger space. The screen here is curved slightly. The system for these tests is an Intel dual-core 6300 with 1GB ram and a Nvidia 7900GS video card. Both the video card are FlightSim9 are running at about 80% settings, with AI traffic set to 100%. FS9 is tweaked to run very efficiently and frame-rates are locked at 25. The pics are taken flying around Sydney (YSSY). Projectors are BenQ 620MP each running at 1024x678 XGA resolution. In some of the pics the left image appears to be a different color - but this was not visible at the time.
Zoom here is
normal - 1.0 Same view as
above - but zoomed back to 0.31 to get a more natural eyepoint
Same view but
this is with 3 undocked views - forward-left, forward, and forward-right
(all set at zoom 1.0). There is more view visible at far-left and
right (compared to the pic above). However the difference is not
as much as I expected. A disadvantage though is that FPS dropped
to around 12 - i.e. a 50% drop in performance.
With the PMDG737 virtual cockpit
This one was taken later on my mobile phone (which is why it's so crappy!). But the point of this one is to show what happens when you look left at 45 degrees (pressing num-7 on the keyboard). You get almost a full 90 degree left-hand view. Interesting! Zoom here is 0.31
Flying around.
The sense of motion was good even in these tests. Frame rates stayed
locked at 25 and the sim was as smooth as silk.

flight situation "Through the Alps" (zoom 1.0)
Another pic
with the three undocked windows.
Another pic with the three undocked windows. I also tried this in full-screen mode. The windows held their position but there seemed to be another full width view rendered underneath. Interestingly though - FPS went back up to 25! Hmm... The background music was the TV and the sound effects are my daughter in the kitchen :). Oh - and I was flying this by the keyboard with no gauges .. so no comments about my "flying" ok!! :) To comment on this video go to our place on YouTube |
